Julia is an architect, city planner, founder and the creative head of the JES network. As the creative node between proprietors, city councils, architects and future users, she makes sure projects are matched with the right people and concepts.
As a child, Julia Erdmann already wanted to make a change. Her school’s plain walls and uninspiring classrooms triggered her creative potential, as she resolved to make buildings more human and places more liveable. Based on the observation that many new developments fail to address spacial and social possibilities, she founded JES: Julia Erdmann Socialtecture in 2017.
Prior to launching her own company, she studied architecture and city planning in Hamburg, New York and Barcelona. Until 2016, she worked as an architect and co-managing director at Stephen Williams Associates, Hamburg. During this collaboration, she oversaw the development of many projects which left an indelible mark on Hamburg’s cityscape: for example, the 25Hours Hotel Hafencity, DesignXport, Facebook’s Headquarters, the ‚Stadthöfe’ and other emphatically inclusive places, where people are put first and brought together.
Julia Erdmann received many awards for her innovative approach to places, i.e. the BDA prize, the ULI Leadership Award and the Red Dot Design Award. She combines an expertise in architecture with a sensibility for socially relevant issues and future trends of urban development. This is Socialtecture.
